Day 1 (02/09/2013) Past, Present and Future aspirations
For our first day we were told in advance to bring in 10
objects in relations to our past, present and future aspirations. We were given
different instructions to do for each of our items. My 10 items were:
Livingetc magazine
(A magazine which inspires designs and decorations
for modern homes)
Our task was to draw the object in the way it affects us. I
in the future want to become an interior designer, so this magazine gives me
the knowledge and inspirations for different decorating ideas and designs for
homes. We were given a few minutes to do this task, and I always liked to take my time, so I ended up rushing myself. I wanted to used media's that we don't normally see ourselves using, so I tried using different colour highlighters to add a bit of colour to the drawing.
Childhood photograph
I had to write 50 words
associated to my object. Due to the time restraint I only
managed to write 16 words. I tried using different media and changing the font
and sizes of the words. Also, to make the page look more interesting I kept turning
the paper after each word, so it does not matter where you start reading from. You
have to turn the page as you read each word, and some of the words are not even
written in the right way.
My purse
I had
to create an advertisement that would sell my object. My item was my purse, so I
instinctively thought about the commercials we usually see around us
advertising fashion wear and accessories. This is how I thought about drawing a woman smiling
whilst holding onto my purse.
Secondary school ID
This is
a design for my own wrapping paper to wrap my object. I am supposed to create a
wrapping paper by the way I feel about my object. My object was my secondary
school I.D, which I dislike very much because I didn’t like my photograph. It
makes me feel like scribbling my image, so this is how the design for the
wrapping paper came from. I used mainly dark coloured oil pastels as it
expresses cold and negativity. However, if I was to redo the work again I would
of use biro pens and scribble hard to create texture on page, which also conveys my emotion for the object.
Watch
I had
to write one word to describe my object, and write that word in the way it
makes me think and feel. My object is my watch and the word that comes straight
to my mind is ‘time’. I drew an arrow on each letter to suggest clocks hands. I
used charcoal to draw a circle around each letter and rub it using my fingers
to create a sense of motion. It also suggests the way how a clock moves in
circle and it is there to suggest movement.
Small jewellery box (a present from my grandma)
I was
told to look carefully at my object, and then I had to close my eyes whilst
drawing my object from memory. I had fun doing the task, as it did not require my
drawing to be neat or accurately drawn. It gave me a sense of curiosity and excitement
to know how it will turn out with my and other people’s drawing.
A music box
I had to draw and write the process of how my item was produced. I found
this to be the most difficult, as I had no idea of how a music box was made. I decided to just make it up as I go along, of what I thought the process was of making my music box.
Photograph
I had my object (photograph) photocopied and was instructed
to draw arrows and write the details involved in the object. I used different
coloured highlighters to highlight certain parts in the photograph and write
down a short description of what it is. The task was easy for me, as the photograph was only taken a few weeks ago when I was still on holiday. I was able to clearly remember even the smallest details, such as the date of when it was taken and who it was taken by.
Video
We had
to work together in pairs and create a 30 second video advertisement or just description of one of
our objects. We decided to use my peer’s item, which is an album titled Fiction and Fact by a Korean idol group
called Beast. We made a short script, and decided that she will be the speaker whilst I do the filming. I thought we communicated well and did a good job, despite only knowing each other not for long. However, if I was to change something it would be the location. This is because when I looked back at the video, there was a lot of noise due to the other pairs that was working around us. I would of move away from the others and choose a more quieter place to film again.
Bracelet
I had to use my body to show how I feel
about my object. My item was a bracelet which dates back to 2007. It was
assembled by my mum, and I remembered it took her a whole day to complete. To express
my emotions of love and gratitude, I smiled as I am making a heart shape with
my hands whilst wearing the bracelet.
We had to wrap our
objects with our drawing and put it into a plastic bag, which we will need to bury
in our own time and take pictures of by Thursdays lesson.
I enjoyed the
experience of creating my own time capsule, and I liked the vision of burying
the capsule and am able to dig it out in 10 years time to look back on. I liked
doing the different tasks for each items, although there were times when I
found it difficult. However, it has help stimulate a lot of thinking and generating
different ideas in a short space of time. For most of the tasks we were only allowed 10-20 minutes to compete, which was a challenge for me as I am used to drawing neatly. Nonetheless, I quickly got used to doing things quicker and it has helped me to stop over-think about what I am doing and just learn to let myself go a bit more.
Really thorough and well presented! I like how you've displayed all the images of what you have been doing, and I think it's written clearly and I think you've done a great job.
ReplyDeleteYou clearly described all your objects, time management and you identified what could be improved, and what you found difficult. What you could add, is how these techniques can be applied for a future career.
