We watched Peter Mullan's short film Fridge (1995). It tells a moving yet disturbing story of a young boy trapped in a fridge that was abandoned at the back of a housing estate. A alcoholic couple was there attempting to free the boy. My thoughts on the story was during that time people like to keep themselves to themselves. They would not get into other people's business, as we saw in the film how people shut themselves out from being involve in saving a young child's life.
After watching the video, we talked about what went into
creating the film. We are talking about, the director, who directs everyone;
script writer, who plays the very important role of writing the script and the
makeup artist and costume designer, who put the actors into character. Others
include the producer, cinematographer, sound designer etc...
We establish in a story has a beginning, middle and end.
Also, there should be a problem in the beginning, a struggle in the middle and
a resolution at the end of the story.
Then, we had to use other people’s drawings to make links with a character and a situation or place. I drew and wrote 5 different characters. We had to give our characters things they do, such as the things they eat in the morning and their occupation. Afterwards, we had to write a problem for each of the characters and a resolution. Then, we had to add the middle, which is where the characters struggle.
Then on the A1 sheet, we had to work together to create 3 storyboards. We split the group in half, so it would be quicker for us finish
the three stories. It was a good decision as we finished our stories just
before we were told to stop and even had time to exchange each other stories. I
worked on the second story, which was about a person who sleeps on a roller coaster. Somehow the roller coaster was activated. The person was woken up and screamed for help.
He saw from afar that there was a crack on the track, which made him even more
scared and scream even louder. A security guard saw what was happening and went
to the booth to deactivate the ride, saving the man’s life.
