3DD day 1

The first task was to write 50 functions in relations to our career choice. For I who wants to do interior design or interior architecture, I had to write down 50 spaces. I initially thought it was easy but it was actually very challenging. My mind was running out of functional spaces to write down, I even tried thinking of spaces that I have been to. I had to work with the people who were sitting on the same table as me to manage to write down 50 interiors under an hour.

Next, we had to use different ordinary materials that were available for us to create interesting 3D shapes. The materials include cardboard, strings, elastic band, nails, polypropylene etc...  At first, I found myself wondering about what materials I should used for my pieces. Once I got a selection of materials I went straight on playing and experimenting with the materials to create interesting forms. I didn’t find the task difficult because I had already done similar task in the exploratory stage in 3DD and fashion rotations.

Next time I should have created bigger pieces. I thought looking at all my test pieces together that there sizes are all relatively small, so I should have been braver and challenge myself to create larger pieces. I only managed to make 4 pieces before lunch, so I think next time I should work more quickly.

In the afternoon, I was in the computer suite using Adobe Illustrator to create a laser cut out.  I was taught how to use the different components on Illustrator to create different random shapes and slots. It was my second time using Illustrator and I still found it really difficult to catch up with the given instructions. I always found myself lacking behind, so I had to wait for Anna to finish explaining the steps for I to ask her for help. When she finished helping me I then forgot the steps beyond what she has helped me, so overall I was frustrated most of the time. Although, I was slow with understanding the instructions, so I worked quicker to take back the time I wasted. I managed to finish filling up the page with shapes and added the slots.

I think to improve I should download the software and try playing around with the different components on Illustrator.
