3DD week 4 day 2

We started off with a mini presentation with the people on the same table and also John. We are supposed to tell the group our idea and gain feedback from others. I was really nervous as always when it comes to speaking in front to a group of people. My idea of an outdoor studio did not impress since I haven’t thought about who is going to use the studio and where it is going to be located. Also, the size of the studio and the materials I would use is questions that I was asked but can’t reply to. John told me to tell the group about my original idea the soundproof telephone box/ rest area, and it appears to have a more popular reaction. This made me have many doubts about what to do. I felt really uneasy and pressurized knowing that I have to do a presentation on Thursday and I still haven’t got a solid idea. 

I regret during the group crit to have not given any feedback to others. I should be braver to say what I thought about every persons work instead of keeping it to myself. There were many moments where i wanted to say something, but couldn’t bring myself to do it. This could be coming down to nerves. I think as we are doing these crits and presentations, it is helping me with my confidence to speak in front of a big group of people. 

After the crit, I went back to researching what other spaces I could do that would be benefit of having soft walls. I instinctively thought about kid’s playroom in big shopping centres. The soft wall would prevent children from hurting themselves when they are playing around. I did a very rough sketch of how it would look like. 

 

Then, I thought back about my original idea, the soundproof telephone box/ rest area. I thought about just doing a soundproof rest area alone, and there will be more than one of them situated in the busiest places in central London. It would be a place for shelter, as we know of the British weather being mostly poor with cold and rain. The rest area will also be a place for people to relax, read book or on their laptop pr phone. It is a place where people can go to instead of to coffee shops. There will also be free Wi-Fi service available in the hub. On the contrary to the quiet space, it could also be a place for people to have phone conversations without the disturbance of the busy and noisy atmosphere of the outside. I begin to really like this idea, and I decided to do the rest area for this project. I also realized how my model can be shaped into different forms because of the soft sponges, I decide to make the building curvy to make it more interesting than be shaped into a rectangular box.
